Early Learning Expo
Join us on Saturday, September 19 for the 6th Annual Early Learning Expo! Local early childhood educators are invited to discover practical and inspiring ways to incorporate nature-based learning into their classrooms and programs. This year's theme, Roots & Wings: Nature-Based Learning in Early Childhood Education, celebrates the powerful role nature plays in fostering children's curiosity, creativity, resilience, and lifelong love of learning.
Attendees will begin the day with an inspiring keynote presentation from the educators of New Hope Christian Preschool, who will showcase their successful outdoor classroom, share how they integrate nature into daily learning, and demonstrate the impact of nature-based provocations on children's development.
Following our opening remarks, participants will rotate through four interactive breakout sessions designed to provide classroom-ready ideas and hands-on experiences:
- Outdoor Classrooms on Any Budget – Learn practical, affordable ways to create engaging outdoor learning environments, regardless of your program's size or budget.
- Bringing Nature Inside – Discover simple strategies for incorporating natural materials, loose parts, and seasonal elements into indoor learning spaces.
- Nature and Early Literacy – Explore how nature can inspire storytelling, language development, early writing, and literacy-rich learning experiences.
- Nature Art: Process Over Product – Experience the joy of open-ended creativity using natural materials while supporting children's imagination, problem-solving, and self-expression.
Participants will leave with innovative ideas, practical resources, and ready-to-implement strategies that support meaningful nature-based learning in any early childhood setting. Whether you are just beginning your nature education journey or looking to enhance your current practices, this year's Early Learning Expo will inspire you to cultivate strong roots for learning while giving children the confidence to spread their wings.
We welcome all local child care providers, as well as anyone with involvement in the field. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Lisa Walter, Early Learning Director, at lisa@mccf-in.org or 362-1267.
