2023 Camp Milligan Wrap-up

8.4.23

Camp Milligan was back in action for its second summer of fun and learning this past May! Camp Milligan counselors welcomed 40 full-time campers back to summer camp on May 31st and spent all ten weeks of summer break with each other where every day presents a new opportunity for learning and adventure!

Our team of five camp counselors did an incredible job caring for and leading all forty of our campers throughout the summer. Camp Counselors attend a mandatory training day with the ELD, where they receive training on positive behavior guidance, classroom management, and relationship building skills. They also receive CPR and First Aid training from the Crawfordsville Park and Recreation Department. It is our goal to equip our counselors with the tools they need to have a fun and enjoyable summer-just like our campers!

MCCF’S Early Learning Director plans the entire ten-week summer curriculum including weekly field trips, STEAM activities, group games and outdoor activities. With the exception of a few movie days, this summer program is completely screen-free! New at camp this summer was a fully-loaded STEAM Lab! This new addition to the camp program provided new STEAM materials, books, and furniture for campers to use throughout each day. The weekly lesson plan also featured a built in STEAM Lab time that featured different curriculum lessons for children ages 5-7 and then a more advanced lesson was planned for children ages 8-12. Some of our favorite STEAM lessons were; Extracting DNA from a Strawberry, Fingerprint Investigations, Water Bottle Flip, DIY Robot Construction, and Splatter Painting!

The Camp Milligan campers and staff traveled to many field trips this summer! We visited a lot of fun places to help extend the weekly curriculum including the Indianapolis Children's Museum, Turkey Run State Park and Swimming Pool, Crawfordsville District Public Library, Carnegie Museum, and even an Indianapolis Indians baseball game!
